Current Research
The following active projects have received approvals and/or funding, and are in preliminary or active stages of research:
Don Calabria Rehabilitation Center / University of Verona, Department of Neurology (Verona, Italy)
Investigators: Paolo Manganotti, MD, Neurol., Barbara Montagnana, Physiatric MD.
Description: Immediate effects of a customized TheraTogs application on EMG activity in 4 muscles of the lower extremity in school-aged children with cerebral palsy, Levels I, II, and III. This study is using simultaneous video and EMG.
Status: To date, six subjects have showed reduction in chaotic muscle recruitment, and one child showed a change to some phasic activation of the rectus femoris muscles. Informally, all 6 subjects exhibited increased gait velocity.
Children University Hospital, Gait Analysis Laboratory, Basel, Switzerland
Investigator and Advisor: Clare Maguire, Dr. Robert De Bie, Karen Niedermann.
Description: Comparison of EMG activity & temporal and spatial gait parameters, joint kinematics for 20 stroke patients utilizing a cane, TheraTogs, abductor kinesiotaping and no walking aid. Comparison of EMG to aged match normal.
Status: Data collection now underway.
Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Salt Lake City, Utah
Investigator: Kristianne Walter George, PT, MA, PCS, doctoral candidate; Committee Chairman; Dr. Stephen Lichtman.
Description: A-B-A-B project design, 32 weeks of data gathering (including foot print data) in 8-week blocks to determine biomechanical effects of TheraTogs. At this writing, the study group includes 22-30 children with cerebral palsy. Ms. George just completed a five-day intensive training session with Ms. Beverly Cusick, TheraTogs inventor, preparatory to beginning the data collection phase of the project. Status: Data collection initiates September 2007.
